Floods and Drains 5th July 2017

Starting to remove the silt blockage

The drain water coming out via the wall joints

Graham, Alec and Chris waiting for the fluorescein

The drain adjacent to the Barracks building has been slow to clear for some months. On 5th July we dug, rodded and flushed the drain in order to find out where the water should be going.  A dose of fluorescein was required.  The water eventually emerged through the stone walling adjacent to the concrete pipe for Rampgill Burn.  Our conclusion is that the drain is almost blocked at this point.  We plan to reroute the drainage into a modern surface water pipe which runs in front of the Barracks and discharges into the river.
