GEODAYS AND CARRS MINE TRIPS

CARRS MINE TRIPS

Our Carrs Mine trips take about 90 minutes. We provide lamps and helmets. We suggest that you wear outdoor clothing and footwear. The temperature underground is around 8C. The mine is usually dry underfoot, but may be a little muddy in places. We welcome all children who can walk and climb stairs – we don’t take babes in arms underground.

We are a charity with a 100% volunteer team. We suggest a donation for mine trips of £11 for adults and £5 for children.

Our Open Days in 2024 will be on 28 April, 26 May, 16 June, 28 July, 7 August,18 August, 28 August, 29 September, and 27 October.

To request a booking, please scroll down the page to our on-line booking form. Choose your preferred date and time from the drop-down list.

GEODAYS

Our Geodays are an introduction to the geology and minerals of Nenthead and the North Pennines. We start at 1000hrs with a visit to rock outcrops above ground, then we have a lunch break and follow this with a below ground visit to Carrs Mine. We suggest a donation of £14.50 per person for this special excursion.

Our Geoday on 26th May 2024 is now fully booked. Please email bookings(at)nentheadmines.com with the number of people in your group if you would like to be on our mailing list for future Geodays. We recommend a minimum age of 14 years.

ORGANISED GROUP VISITS

The Society can also arrange custom group visits to Carrs Tourist Mine throughout most of the year, except for the months of July and August

A  suggest a minimum donation of  £110  is needed to confirm a booking for an organised group visit, subject to a volunteer guide being available.   To discuss a date, please either send us an email –  bookings(at)nentheadmines.com or phone 07718 385646.  We usually need three weeks notice of your proposed date.

We do not offer Carrs Mine tours from November through to late March. We carry out mine maintenance during this period.
