OPEN DAYS

Our Carrs Mine trips on Open Days take about 90 minutes. On the trip we show old mining methods, talk about history, look at geology and see fluorescent minerals
We provide lamps and helmets. We suggest that you wear outdoor clothing and footwear. The temperature underground is around 8C. The mine is usually dry underfoot, but may be a little muddy in places. We welcome all children who can walk and climb stairs – we don’t take babes in arms underground.
We are a charity with a 100% volunteer team. We charge £15 for adults and £7 for children for mine trips. If you’re visiting as a group, we offer a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children for only £40.

BREWERY SHAFT
After your Carrs mine visit, you can visit the top of our 100 metres deep mine shaft. See lights switch on down the shaft. Hear about how the miners used renewable energy. Please note that this part of the visit depends on us having enough volunteer guides.

GEO DAYS
Our Geology Days offer a whole day guide to the geology above and below ground in our mine. and the North Pennines. A geology guide booklet is included in the price. The day includes walking on rough and uneven surfaces which are sometimes ankle deep in water.
Advance booking is essential. Our charge is £22 per person.
ORGANISED GROUP VISITS
The Society can also arrange custom group visits to Carrs Mine throughout most of the year, except for the months of July and August.
For organised group visits up to 10 people we charge £200, then an additional £15 per person thereafter. Subject to a volunteer guide being available. To discuss a date, please send us an email – bookings(at)nentheadmines.com. We usually need at least three weeks notice of your proposed date.
We do not offer Carrs Mine tours from November through to late March. We carry out mine maintenance during this period.
